Manga volume guide

Volume 1

Name: Turning back time

Covers chapters: 1-8

Covers episodes: 1-3

Description: Our story begins when the high-school girl Kagome gets dragged into a magic well by a monster. She lands in another world, in Japan's feudal era, except with a lot more demons.Once there, she encounters the half-demon InuYasha who has been sealed to a tree and discovers that she has some kind of link to him, and to this age.

Differences from the anime: None

Volume 2

Name: Family matters

Covers chapters: 9-18

Covers episodes: 4-7

Description: InuYasha and Kagome chases after Yura to get back the shard, but how will they defeat her? Then, we get a glimpse of InuYasha's past as we encounter InuYasha's older brother, the demon Sesshomaru

Differences from the anime: The fight against Yura is a lot more gory and the fight against Sesshomaru is shorter, and a little different, since in the manga, he doesn't have that energy whip-thing.

Volume 3

Name: Good intentions

Covers chapters: 19-28

Covers episodes: 8, 9, 11, in the order 8, 11, 9

Description: InuYasha is eager to test his new weapon and when they hear rumours about a demon toad in a castle, he and Kagome go to check it out. Back in Kagome's world, the terror of an ancient, demonic Noh mask is spreading. We also encounter Shippo, a young fox demon and the terrifying Thunder Brothers

Differences from the anime: The Noh-mask story is a lot more gory, and in my opinion, creepier. Also, the order of the stories is a little different

Volume 4

Name: Lost and alone

Covers chapters: 29-38

Covers episodes: 10, 12

Description: InuYasha and Kagome fight Hiten and Manten, but with so many Shikon shards, the powers of the two brothers is nt to be underestimated. Kagome returns to her own world, where she meets the ghost of a young girl, who is not quite ready to rest in peace, not until she has killed her brother!

Differences from the anime: The story about Mayu is longer, or at least it feels like it

Volume 5

Name: Flesh and bone

Covers chapters: 39-48

Covers episodes: 13-14

Description: InuYasha, being a half-breed is very different from full demons, Kagome knows that. But just how different? Back in Kaede's village, an ogress steals Kikyo's ashes and tries to revive her. Just what was the relationship between Kikyo and InuYasha, and what will Kagome do when the ogress tries to steal her soul?

Differences from the anime: None

Volume 6

Name: Wounded souls

Covers chapters: 49-58

Covers episodes: 15-17

Description: Kagome and InuYasha encounters a mysterious monk with even more mysterious powers. Is he a friend or a foe? Then, InuYasha-tachi become involved with a strage painter with a shikon shard.

Differences from the anime: None... I think.

Volume 7

Name: Close enemies

Covers chapters: 59-68

Covers episodes: 18-20

Description: Naraku and Sesshomaru joins forces, which puts InuYasha in a bad position. Now Sesshomaru is after him again, and this time he might really be able to take the Tetsusaiga. But Naraku has more ideas and sends the guardian of the forest, Royakan to kill InuYasha

Differences from the anime: Like I said before, Sesshomaru doesn't have that whip in the manga,so the fight between him and InuYasha is a bit different.

Volume 8

Name: Stolen spirit

Covers chapters: 69-79

Covers episodes: 21-23

Description: Kikyo maybe have fallen down a cliff, but it takes more than that to kill someone like her. She's still alive, and to survive she has to feed on the souls of young girls, which leads the group to her, and brings on the fateful meeting of Kikyo and Kagome.

Differences from the anime: The whole thing with Kikyo feels longer somehow.

Volume 9

Name: Building a better trap

Covers chapters: 80-89

Covers episodes: 57-58, 24

Description: InuYasha and the gang encounters the Peach Man, not quite human, but no demon wither. Then we meet a village of trained demon exterminators, and the tragedy of the warrior maiden Sango.

Differences from the anime: In the manga, the story about Togenkyo takes place before they meet Sango, and that's why she went away in the anime. Sango is introduced some time after.

Volume 10

Name: A warrior's code

Covers chapters: 90-99

Covers episodes: 25, 26

Description: Sango, who has been tricked by Naraku sets out to fight InuYasha, but will she realise who her true enemy is before it's too late? We also encounter the village of the water god, a village that's forced to sacrifice their children to an evil water god!

Differences from the anime: None I guess

Volume 11

Name: Scars of the past

Covers chapters: 100-109

Covers episodes: 27-29

Description: We get a little look into Miroku's past when his hand becomes wounded and he returns to the temple where he was raised. But Miroku's not the only one in danger, Sango meets Naraku in person and is offered a deal she can't possibly accept. Or can she?

Differences from the anime: As usual, all stories feel longer.

Volume 12

Name: Trials and traps

Covers chapters: 110-119

Covers episodes: 30-32

Description: Sango has to choose between her friends and her brother, when InuYasha and company rushes in to save her. We also meet Jinenji, a half-breed, just like InuYasha. InuYasha is also reunited with Kikyo, but not in the most romantic of settings - an arena where demons are forced to fight each other.

Differences from the anime: None
